Cut four of the figs in half. Cut a deep cross into the eight remaining figs. Squeeze the bottom of each fig slightly to open them up and place them all into an ovenproof roasting dish.
In a separate bowl mix together the remaining ingredients, then pour the mixture over the figs and mix them carefully. Nestle the cinnamon sticks under the figs and roast for 15 minutes.
When ready to serve, place 2 figs and 2 fig halves onto a plate and drizzle with the syrup from the baking dish.
Notes
Add a scoop of ice cream or fresh fruit for an extravagant touch.
